Principals hired to fill vacancies in Red Hill school district Share
The Red Hill Unit 10 School Board filled two vacant positions in the district this week. Principals for both Bridgeport Grade School and Red Hill High School were needed upon the hiring of Deanna Brashear (BGS principal) as assistant superintendent and Matt Seaton (RHHS principal) as superintendent. Jakie V. Walker, BGS principal The board went out of the district to offer Jakie V. Walker of Olney a three-year contract, beginning July 1, as principal of BGS. Walker is currently the Special Education Coordinator of North Clay School District #25 of Louisville.

While employed with District #25 (since January of 2004), he has strengthened the reading curriculum in the special education department and reduced the number of special education students, removing labels from students that had no adverse affect. Walker majored in Special Education, earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, in December of 2003, graduating MAGNA CUM LAUDE. He earned his Masters of Science in Education from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston in May of 2008. He is a member of the Council for Exceptional Citizens. He has also served as a trainer, leading fellow educators in Rtl., curriculum and school improvement issues. Notable references proclaimed that he had ''excellent communication skills with staff members to help ensure the welfare of the students.'' Clarence W. Gross Jr., RHHS principal The Red Hill district will also have another new face as Clarence W. Gross Jr. was given a three-year contract to take the reins as principal of RHHS, July 1. Gross resides in Mount Vernon, Ill. He is currently a physical education, health education and driver education teacher at Webber Township High School in Bluford, Ill. He is also a part-time teacher at Rend Lake College, Ina, Ill., in health education. He has been involved in school athletics as a volunteer assistant basketball coach for boy's basketball at Grayville High School (1996-2000), head coach for boy's baseball at Webber Township High School (2000-2003), assistant basketball coach for boy's basketball at Webber (2000-2002), and head coach for boy's basketball at Webber (2002-2006). Gross earned his Associate in Science degree from Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel in 1998. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education in 2000 from the University of Southern Indiana, Evansville, Ind., and his Master of Science in Educational Administration from Eastern Illinois University in May of 2009. He has been a sponsor of the Rotary Interact Club, Webber Township High School and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. In 2004-05, he received the awards from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, the Southern Illinois Coaches Association, and A Baseline View.Com Coach of the Year award, as well as ''Who's Who Among American High School Teachers in 2001-02.
