Rippers compete in fast pitch state championship

The Rippers traveling softball team competed on the July 4 weekend in the NSA Illinois Class B Girls Fast Pitch South State Championship in Peoria. The Rippers played two seating games and survived four games of tournament play.


On Friday, July 3, the Rippers were defeated 4-3 by ECI Dynamite. Neither team scored until an overtime eighth inning.


Taylor Paulin hit three doubles, while Mykayla Duncan hit one.


From the pitcher's mound, Ashlyn Carr allowed five hits, struck out nine and walked one.


Also on Friday, the Rippers defeated the Morton Mystics, 9-4.

The Rippers scored four runs in the second inning, while the Mystics scored two. Then in the fourth inning, the Rippers ran in two. The Rippers finished up the game with three runs in the fifth, while the Mystics scored one.


Carr allowed six hits and struck out one.


Midwest Magic defeated the Rippers, 9-0, in the third game on Friday.


McKenzie McClain pitched the game, allowing five hits, striking out two and walking three.


In a matchup with the Douglas County Misfits on Sunday, the Rippers won the contest, 5-2.


Carr allowed three hits, struck out five and allowed two hits.


Heidi Litherland and Ashlyn Carr both hit doubles.


On Sunday, the Rippers nipped the Quad City Dreamers, 7-6.


Kelsi Perrott made a home run in the game.


The Pontiac Panthers defeated the Rippers with a score of 3-1 on Sunday.


Carr allowed four hits, struck out six and walked two batters.


At bat, Heidi Litherland and Taylor Paulin both hit doubles.
