Three New Businesses coming to town

Share

In spite of recent unemployment trends and other economic woes both locally and nationally, some new businesses in town have brought a sense of optimism and hope to the community of Marshall. The three latest additions to the Marshall landscape are Shabby Chic Creations, Petro Junction, and the much-anticipated Los Tres Caminos.

Shabby Chic Creations

Shabby Chic (pronounced sheek) Creations, which opened last Monday, features a variety of items from hanging baskets, seasonal plants and flower arrangements for every occasion to garden stones, unique gifts and a variety of ''shabby chic'' decorative items for both home and garden. Additionally, according to co-owners Carla Smith and Shayne Livvix, they will also be carrying a full selection of Lions and Quarterback Club merchandise, which they are particularly excited about, being big Lions fans themselves. Then, in the Spring, they will be adding a seasonal greenhouse as well, effectively making it a one-stop shop for all your floral needs.

When asked what inspired her interest in this new business, Smith replied, ''It's something I've wanted to do for a long time. I've always wanted to do something creative.'' And now she has.

Shabby Chic Creations is located on Archer Avenue, just east of Rt. 1. For more information, call Carla or Shayne at 217-826-6400.

Petro Junction

Playing on the theme of Petticoat Junction, Tim and Kim Ward's latest business venture is a gas station and convenient mart known as Petro Junction. And based on the response they've gotten in their first week of business, it promises to be yet another successful one. For while there are other gas stations and convenient stores in Marshall, Petro Junction is the only one on the far south end of town. Plus, Ward offers more personalized service and assistance that you rarely see in filling stations today.

Currently, Petro Junction's convenient store carries a varied selection of snacks, drinks, tobacco products, automotive items, and other merchandise that continues to come in on a daily basis. Plus, according to Tim Ward, they will be adding a sandwich shop, a bait shop, and seasonal produce in the future.

Additionally, the back part of the building/store will be used for Tim's other business-KJ Plumbing, which he currently operates out of his home. Bob Grieve has been hired to manage the business and two additional part-time employees will provide assistance, as will Tim and Kim themselves.

Petro Junction, which is just south of Kirchner's on Rt. 1, is open seven days a week from 5 AM to 9 PM.

Los Tres Caminos

Last but not least on Marshall's business front, Frank Lomeli, his new manager Juan Jose, and the rest of their crew have been hard at work, preparing to open Los Tres Caminos-a popular Mexican Restaurant with other locations in Terre Haute and Paris, among other places. This new restaurant, according to Lomeli, will seat 85-90 customers, plus they'll be adding an outdoor patio for 25-30 more next spring.

When asked what brought him to Marshall, Lomeli said that friends and customers from the area have been asking him to open a store in Marshall ever since he opened his first one in Paris nine years ago. ''I just hope the response is as good as they say it will be,'' added Lomeli. And based on the response he has gotten in his other restaurants and his continual expansion as a restaurateur, the odds are clearly in his favor.

Los Tres Caminos will be open 7 days a week and is located on the west side of Rt. 1, across from Super Wal-Mart (just south of I-70's Marshall exit).
