In memory of: The Harlow Park dedication

Share

Last week's dedication of Harlow Park was a celebration of sorts-a celebration of the life of the late Rogene Harlow; a celebration of the family that loved her and dedicated the park to her memory; and a celebration of Marshall's latest addition to the parks and recreation landscape.

''This is a special day,'' said Darrell Harlow, Rogene's husband and the man who donated the site to the City of Marshall two years ago. ''She would have liked this,'' he added, noting that they had a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren who could enjoy it, not to mention all the other kids in the neighborhood who now have a beautiful new park to play in.

In addition to Mr. Harlow, several others were also in attendance for this special dedication, including Mayor Ken Smith, Parks Chair Mark Strait, and Harlow's daughters Daralea Smith (with husband George) and Jeanne Strohm (with husband Larry). When asked what she thought about the new park, Daralea said it looked great and that she and George were planning to bring their 21 grandchildren and great grandchildren there to enjoy and appreciate this place made possible by her mother and father.

Harlow Park is located at the corner of 2nd and Walnut in Marshall, offering a tranquil setting and brand new playground equipment for kids-and their parents to enjoy.
