Neoga Days celebration begins today Share
Tonight's pageant will name the new Jr. Miss Neoga, but that isn't the end of the activity in the annual celebration. Jennings Park is just one of the settings for Neoga Days events. That's where folks can gather to see each other and renew old acquaintances. The carnival will be operating each day, as will the Bingo tent. Groups will attract visitors under the pavilion to their stands for information and support. Two groups will be serving special meals, fish tonight, chicken Friday and pork on Saturday. Of course, standard fast food will be available at the food stand, and churches will be serving up dessert of homemade pie and cake. The carnival will operate on the Jennings Park grounds all throughout Neoga Days, opening at 6 p.m. tonight and Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday. Rides and carnival games will delight young and old. (Note schedule for armband sessions.) The Jennings Park pavilion stage will give forth talent on Friday night and musical entertainment Saturday with Mike Porter and Panther Creek Band, featuring the Banning Family. Riptide Entertainment will be filling in with music and announcements. A special event will be held Neoga's Grace United Methodist Church--the Neoga Days Quilt Show sponsored by Sew Happy Hearts. The show will run from noon-5 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. Organizers promise many quilts never seen on exhibit in Neoga shows, favorite patterns and several antique pieces. There will be eight categories of display with 1st, 2nd and 3rd places judged in each category. Those who attend can vote for their favorite, and the People's Choice Award will be announced at the close of the show on Saturday.

Three sporting events will take place during Neoga Days, the 5K Run/Walk on Neoga's streets and rural roads Saturday morning, and the Boys Ball Tournament (11-12) on Jennings Park ballfields nightly tonight and Friday and beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. The third event is the Beach Volleyball Tournament Saturday afternoon at the park. Of course, the annual Neoga Days Parade will follow its usual route west on 6th Street to Jennings Park Saturday morning. Floats and other participants will line up at 10 a.m. for judging at 10:30, and then the parade will kick off at 11 a.m. The length of 6th St. will provide the best seats in the house and good opportunities for candy collectors.
