Looking for a new location for her growing business, Connie Adams of Heavenly Delight Cakes found Neoga, more specifically the former Rentfrow Building Supply store. Adams said she had outgrown her former location on Charleston Ave. in Mattoon, and was delighted (pardon the pun) to see all the space available to her in the new shop. Now there is room for the freezers, refrigerators, display cases and worktables that are necessary for her specialty cake business. Heavenly Delight Cakes makes gorgeous taste sensations for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions. An area at the front of the store is set aside for consultations, and Adams appears at bridal shows in the area showing off her wares. She also has an extensive website, www.heavenlydelightcakes.com, where people see hundreds of cakes and other confections designed and executed by Adams and her two full time employees, Yvonne Tharp and Tana Easter. ''People know that if they want that special cake, they'll find it here,'' Adams said. She commented that the move from Mattoon to Neoga was definitely okay for the business because location isn't the foundation of her operation. ''People come to us,'' she explained, and they come to Neoga now. The business maintains its former phone numbert, 235-4361, which is Adams' cell phone. She and her husband Les now live in town. Les has a full time job elsewhere but Adams says he's vital to the business. ''He does whatever we need done,'' she said, and especially helps with deliveries all over the area. The elaborate wedding cakes usually require two people to set up. Heavenly Delight Cakes offers more than cakes, though. ''Cheese cake by the slice'' appears on the sign, and a front cooler has a full array of flavors--turtle, the most popular, cherry or strawberry, brownie, mint, pumpkin, chocolate chip, peanut butter cup, fudge, raspberry and strawberry swirl, red velvet, white chocolate and the real diet threat, triple chocolate. There are also cookies and cupcakes. Recently Adams has added Yoder's Amish goods to her line of merchandise, including breads, pies, noodles, angel food cakes, apple butter, cookies, sweet onion dressing and, for holidays, dinner rolls.
Although there is still a hardware sign near the front entrance, everything offered at Heavenly Delight Cakes is edible, except maybe the balloon bouquets.
