Getting to know: Kay Young Share
Kay Young was born on April 12, 1939 in a farmhouse about 3-1/2 miles southeast of Oblong. Her parents, Orville and Leatha Young are both deceased. Kay went to grades 1-3 at Smoky Row, which was a one room school in the country. For grades 4-8, she attended Oblong Grade School, and her freshman year of high school was spent at Oblong High School before moving to Hutsonville and completing her high school years at Hutsonville High School. Kay earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1961 from Lincoln Bible Institute and went on to earn her Master's Degree from Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1967. Kay is a retired teacher. She has lived in Lincoln, Rockford, and Springfield, Illinois. She has also lived in Greater St. Louis, Missouri, but wants everyone to please note that she has always returned to Crawford County and Oblong! Kay is a Christian, which she says is the most important thing that she has ever done, and she is so thankful that she was born in a country which allows the free exercise of religion. She is a member of the Bethany Christian Church, which is a rural congregation just across the line in Lawrence County.
