Getting to know: Gary Lanter Share
Gary Lanter was born on January 18, 1959 in Sullivan, Indiana. His parents are Wanda Lansbery and the late Bob Lanter. Gary went to both grade school and high school in Oblong, graduating from Oblong High School in 1977. He also attended Lincoln Trail College. In 1982, Gary married Gwenda Westall. They have a son, Braden, who will be a senior this fall at Indiana State University. Gary is the Public Works Superintendent for the Village of Oblong. He is also a member of the Central United Methodist Church, a Chamber of Commerce Board Member, an Oblong Township Cemetery Trustee, and has been a Volunteer Firefighter for the Oblong Fire Department for over 28 years. Gary has always lived in Oblong and would never want to live anywhere else. He says he loves Oblong because it is a great community full of good people.

What is your favorite dessert? Cheesecake What is your favorite drink? Ice cold water What is your favorite sport? Dirt bike racing What kind of vehicle would you like to own? The 1971 Dodge Demon that Levi Yager has. It was mine in high school. What is your favorite radio station? 105.9 WMMC in Marshall If you won the lottery, what would you do? I don't gamble, but if I did and won, I would try to buy the 1971 Dodge Demon that Levi Yager has. What would you do if you were stuck at home in a snowstorm? Not gonna happen-I will be out plowing snow! Who was your favorite grade or high school teacher (and why)? Dorothy Fish. She was Mrs. Bradbury when I was in 5th grade. She was very stern but like a mother to all of her kids. Jo Wilkin was my favorite high school teacher. She never forgot what it was like to be a teenager. Who is your best friend and why? My wife, Gwenda. She supports me no matter what. She's the best friend I could ever ask for. What is your favorite memory of a great time thus far in life? One of my favorite memories is of a kayak trip down the ''little river'' in Kentucky with a group of families from our church. If you could change something about your life, what would it be? I would have finished college. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I would have more patience. What do you like to do in your spare time? Spend time with my wife and son, cook things on the grill and smoke meats, ride my dirt bike, and anything to do with the fire department. What is the best advice you've ever been given? Chuck Tuel always told me ''Don't sweat the small stuff.''
