New Collection building Share
For several years, the cluster made up of Dogwood Prairie, Seed Chapel, Oblong Central, and Oblong Evangelical United Methodist Churches have collected clothing for the Red Bird Mission in Kentucky on the first Saturday of every month from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The collection center and container in the past has been a semi-trailer which was donated by the Crawford County Shrine Club several years ago. The trailer became unusable and unrepairable, thus the need of a new building. Building material funds were made possible by a $1,500.00 grant from the Fellheimer Trust of Macomb, Illinois, First United Methodist Church. Labor was furnished by local church members which included two retired carpenters, one practicing carpenter, and eight to ten gophers and handymen. The Oblong Cluster (West Crawford County Cluster) has been one of the most active in programming and missions in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference since the Cluster's system was set up approximately 15 years ago. For several years, the Oblong Cluster has helped several needy families with roofing jobs, septic and sewer repair needs, siding projects, window replacement, etc. In more recent months, due to lack of young volunteers, the needed help has come in the form of monetary contributions to the needy homeowners. For additional information concerning financial needs, contact any local United Methodist Church Pastor or any active United Methodist Member of the above listed churches.
