John Elliott Ford graduates Share
John Elliott Ford, son of John and Mary Ford and grandson of John and Barbara Ford of rural Hazleton graduated from high school on a Friday night, May the 19th. The commencement was held at Peachtree City's McIntosh High School. The ceremony was held at the football stadium and included 350 seniors. The excitement of the day was the attendance of Jimmy and Roslyn Carter for their grandson Jamie, son of Jeff Carter. Our group sat three rows behind the Carter family. It was so interesting watching the Secret Service in action. We were also amused to see how many people walked right by never recognizing the former President and his entourage sitting in the first row. Surprisingly, Sarah Rawlinson decided to ask him for a picture. He automatically stated that he did not want to distract from the ceremony. President Carter then looked up and said, go ahead, you're cute''. This was quite a thrill for the entire group. John and Mary Ford hosted friends and family for the entire weekend. Among those attending were Rachel Rawlinson (cousin to Elliott) from Evansville and her guests Bill and Billy Nadeau. Bill manages the Swonder Arena in Evansville. He had lots of interesting hockey stories. While in Atlanta they visited the Ikea store and an exhibition featuring body parts. This exhibit is featured in an opening sequence to the new James Bond movie. Here is an interesting tidbit: the only papers we had were several issues of the White River News. The group enjoyed the articles and personals while having breakfast. Bill especially liked the little details included in the personal pages. The rest of those attending were family. This included family Mary and John Ford and Elliot's sister Liz; Jeff Ford drove Mary Elizabeth Rawlinson (Elliott's grandmother) from Princeton to Atlanta. Mikel and Annette Rawlinson (Elliott's uncle) decided to drive down from Indianapolis at the last minute. They found a cute bed and breakfast inn with a definitely southern feeling. It was white clapboard with big white pillars. They were excited to know that it had been used for quite a few movies including the Fighting Temptations. Sarah and Steve Russell and their children, Emily and Andrew attended from Peachtree City. Meggan Ford of Kennesaw, Ga. rounded out the group. The commencement was celebrated at an Irish pub named MacGuires. The out of town group left on Sunday with the exception of Mary Elizabeth.
